19th Tomoe || Text (Action for Viridian City)

Itachi Uchiha went home last night. If anyone has gotten any one of his pokémon, please contact Sasuke Uchiha about it.

[That’s all the text that goes on the network, and he can’t help sighing as he sends it. He doesn’t know what else to say about it, except... He’s never felt more alone in his life.

Which means there’s a sulking kid in Viridian City Pokémon Center, and otherwise his only communication is on the gear. Which really isn’t anything that new for Sasuke, but the reason is something more relatable this time at least.]

Are you going to let her, or is she going to have to hunt you down in the Viridian Forest this time?

[Because last time he wanted to ditch his friends, he went and hid in Ilex, right? This going to be round two?]

No. I'm actually staying in the pokémon center to wait for her.

[Apparently someone's not in a ditching mood. It's not like they'd leave him alone if he pulled that anyway, if the messages in his inbox are anything to say about it.]

Good. You shouldn't be alone right now. Not entirely.

[Even if he doesn't want to actually talk about it, having some one there...she knows the good it does. He needs that connection now more than ever, she thinks.]

[Another sigh leaves him at that, and although she can't see it he's shaking his head. It's just... Hard. He doesn't know what to feel and that's frustrating him more, but he doesn't know what he can do about it.]

I don't know if I can ever truly stop hating him, but I didn't want him to go. I wanted to forgive him.

Does he have to be here for you to forgive him? Because it sounds like you have already.

... I don't know if I have.

[Not sure, huh? She understands that, in a way, and it's clear in her tone that she does.]

Give it time. He's got a lot to make up for.

[How much time...well. That's up to Sasuke himself.]

There's no way for him to make up for it. No one can bring back the dead.

[There's just been something sobering about this whole experience, being together with Itachi again, learning the truth... It's helping that Lightning is listening and, as far as he can tell, understanding. Even if he'd never admit it, it's helping a lot.]

This place can. Don't write your family off just yet.

[She understands it all too well. Maybe more than even she realizes just yet. After a moment, she sighs, long and heavy. Someone has to know. Maybe he'll understand more if he's the one to find out.]

My sister died, Sasuke. But she was still able to come here, even after that had already happened in our world. This place...it's capable of doing the impossible. Maybe it can help you to come to terms with it, even if you can't forgive him entirely.

[Just think on it, is what she means. She knows forgiveness is hard.]

[Her sister? He... Hadn't known that anything like that happened to Lightning. He's stunned into silence for a little bit, listening until it's clear that she's done speaking before he tries to gather his thoughts enough to speak again.]

I don't know if it can.

[But... Now that Lightning's brought it up like this, part of him dares to hope. Somehow, he never thought it'd happen to him. Naruto got to see his parents again, sure. A relative he'd never met was brought back from the dead, fine. But... To see people he'd lost on that night... Maybe it could happen for him, too.

He takes an audibly shaky breath, trying to compose himself before continuing.]

I have to keep moving forward... Whether it happens or not.

[She gives him that time without a word, needing to compose herself as well. It's been over a year since she found out, and it hasn't gotten any easier. Whether or not she trusts him, she had to say it. It hurts, and she's glad this is audio. It lets her clear her face of emotion and keep her voice steady for when she can speak again. Someone has to keep it together, and she can't blame him for it not being him today.]

You're right. Whether it happens or not, you have to keep living. [Her voice drops a note here, getting a bit distant, as if she's remembering something.] But living without hope is just a way to die. No family would want that for you.

... I'll try to remember that.
