[Sasuke's sitting on his bed when the video goes on, and he's holding an egg... With a Dratini hanging around his shoulders and looking at the camera?

Looks kind of small though. Maybe a baby Dratini? Whatever it is, it looks interested in the camera -- and said camera gets pulled away briefly before the focus returns to Sasuke, and in his free hand -- oh hey his cast is gone! -- He's holding up a silver ticket that a lot of trainers seem to have gotten...]

What's the point of going to a party like this or there being a party like this in the first place? It seems like a huge waste of time.

[Sasuke, in other words, is asking what's so special about Prom. Care to explain?]

[He can take all the time he wants to think it over. The only sound to come from her end, once the silence has carried on for longer than a minute, will be some sanding noises. Yep. She's still out on that crazy deck she's made her project.]

[Easier now that he doesn't have a freaking cast anymore...]

There's work gloves in the kitchen drawers. You'll need a pair before you come out.

[He disconnects there and settles his Dratini onto the bed before going down, and after a couple of minutes he's walking out to the deck where Lightning is. Just what exactly is she doing out here anyway?]

[What she's doing is sitting halfway down the stairs that lead to the beach, sanding one of the bars of the railing down to wear away the damage caused by weather and poor maintenance. Or rather, a lack of maintenance. She looks up as he comes out, though, and gestures to a small plastic bag full of sandpaper squares.]

Pick a spot and sand in the direction of the grain. Did you find a pair of gloves that fit?

They're a little big but they'll work.

[Meaning that they're not loose enough to be detrimental, at least not in Sasuke's eyes. He grabs one of the squares before starting on one of the bars on the other side.

Huh... It's almost like working on a D-rank mission again, though not quite as irritating as some of them could get. Better than chasing that stupid cat Tora, anyway.]

[She nods, then returns to her own bar. It's slow work, but steady. Something to do with her hands when there's little else to do around the house. At least like this she can make herself useful.

After a few minutes of sanding, however, she looks back up at him and cants her head.]

You thinking of going to the party?

Action!

... The only reason I want to go is to gather information.

[After a few seconds he sighs, his sanding slowing down briefly before he gets back to work.]

I haven't gone to a party like this before and I don't think I want to otherwise. But there are too many people who want me there anyway and probably won't let me stay away.

[The only reason, huh? She shakes her head faintly at that. If he's going on his accord, that's fine. But if the people who won't let him stay away are too involved...well, the warrant expired already and there's no sign of Bowser anywhere. She and Hope are going, but...]

Just because they want you there doesn't mean you have to go, Sasuke. It's your call. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

[She doesn't look convinced about that. Less trouble for whom? His friends and comrades? Or him? Either way, he seems to have made up his mind about it and so she moves to get another piece of sandpaper.]

Then you're going to need formal wear. I'm not sure the market here sells suits.

[A sigh and he nods, frowning more at the wood he's sanding.]

Obito wanted to find Evan to go out and look around earlier.

[A nod, and with her sandpaper replaced she shifts her weight again in preparation to continue.]

You should probably try to catch up. Make sure you get something you'd be comfortable in instead of leaving it up to them.

I know. But I have time to help with this first.

[That gets him a half smile. He's a good kid most days, when he's not being insanely reckless. She hopes someone's told him that.]

For a while. I wouldn't put it past them to put you in pink if you weren't there to say no.

[Well, Obito tried to, but we won't go there. Let's just say he hasn't had a whole lot of positive encouragement to believe in.]

If they value their faces they won't.

[Might be half-serious. Only half. Come on he's capable of having a sense of humor sometimes!]

[That'll change. Probably. Obito always did seem the stubborn type to Lightning.]

[It's said in an even tone, but there's the hint of a smirk on her face. She's got a sense of humor, for all the use it gets.]

[She shakes her head a little, still slightly amused, but then returns to sanding. He'll go when he's ready and she appreciates the help Far be it for her to send him away if he wants to stay. Besides, it's not like she wants to go looking for formal wear, either.]
