1st Tomoe || Video

[When the video feed pops up, it briefly shows the sunny sky and some of the familiar scenery of New Bark Town before a rather unimpressed boy appears on screen. The music has already started to irritate him (since he can't seem to find the source and, eerily enough, it's everywhere), but that's not all that's bothering him.

In fact, one of his eyes visibly twitches when an excited chirp sounds and a cute orange bird peeks at the PokéGear's screen. It seems like he's still thinking over exactly what he wants to ask however, and after he manages to coax the bird to sit still -- well, for the moment anyway -- he finally turns to the PokéGear and indicates the creature beside him.]

What is this thing?

[Someone isn't very talkative. Then again, there are several other things wrong that he'd rather not bring up, all things considered.]

A Pokemon.

[Not talkative either]

[There's a moment of awkward silence, but after a little bit the Torchic hops into Sasuke's lap -- much to his dismay -- and chirps at the camera.]

That's the name for all of these animals?

[The pokedex thing called this particular one a different name, after all. And just what kind of country was he in?]

It's the general term. But each species [if "species" is the correct description] has it's own name.

[Oh! Another Pokemon? As usual, Spheal takes this as a sign to introduce herself by rolling into the line of the video]

SPHEAALLL!!! [...that means "HELLO!"]

They usually say their names. [So it's easy enough to figure out even without the Pokedex]

Hm. [He nods, then frowns down even more at the Torchic as it responds with a rather loud crow of its name in response.]

And they're the only means of combat here?

Yes.

[And that's all there really is to respond with...]

For what reason?

[Finally, an open question! It doesn't seem like a particularly harmful one to ask either, and he spares a glance at the creature in his -- no, it's not in his lap. Torchic instead decided to claw up Sasuke's chest and nuzzle at his cheek, which causes the boy to go a little red and try to push it off of him.]

[Yay! Too bad she can't answer it...]

Who knows. "Pokemon" in my world was a video game, so maybe it's just to keep things simple...

[That's her guess...but really idea...]

[Okay that might be some interesting information. Why would she put it like that?]

The people here all seem to come from different worlds...

[Don't ask for an explanation...she doesn't have one...]

And not everyone is human either.

[At that he just looks skeptical, raising a brow at her at the words.]

I see.

It's a pokey! There are lots of different kinds, but they are good for makin' friends with!

[He frowns at the camera, although it's more because of the Torchic climbing up his shirt and attempting to perch on his shoulder.]

... I don't need new friends.

Mya? Why? Friends are fun! Plus, pokeys can do all sorts of cool things!

That doesn't mean I need them.

... What kinds of things can they do?

[Have a cheerful-looking redhead popping up right about now, a Togepi just visible in her lap.]

If you need any help, one of my friends made a guide to help out those that are new. It's a lot more in-depth than the one in your bag. I can send it to you, if you'd like.

[Well, at least he's not the only one stuck with a cute thing. His own 'cute thing' peeks up at the screen curiously and he seems annoyed for a brief moment before glancing to the camera again.]

You get new people a lot?

[She tilts her head slightly, trying to figure out how to really answer that. But she at least manages a little wave to his Torchic. Cute things are the best things.]

I guess you could say that! I'm still relatively new myself - it hasn't even been a full two months since I got here. But Riku, he's been here for a long time, so it's safe to say he knows what he's doing.

[Torchic warbles a little more excitedly when the girl replies to it. Well, as far as Sasuke knows it is an 'it', anyway.]

How did you get here? [He has no idea how he arrived, but it sounds like this girl might have a clue. It was worth at least hearing her out.]

[She frowns a little at that actually, and shakes her head.]

I'm not really sure. I just know I went to sleep in my own bed and woke up here.

... And it's the same for everyone?

As far as I know, yes. I'm sorry I can't be more help with that.

[He just hummed in response to that, his eyes thoughtfully going down to Torchic again. Even if it wasn't incredibly helpful, it gave him enough information about how he actually came to this place.]

These creatures are supposed to be able to fight, right? [Torchic peeps almost proudly then -- something which just makes Sasuke seem more skeptical.]

Either your best friend or your worst enemy while you're here.

_{[It's a blunt answer from... a girl who sort of looks like a burnt piece of toast. Possibly ironically.]}

[She can't keep from giggling at how his Torchic seems to perk up at that, and she nods. Her Houndour comes into view - or at least, makes his presence known with a loud howl, and she laughs again, gently pressing her hand against his face to keep him from jumping up on her lap and consequently, the Togepi still seated there.]

Yeah, they are. Each Pokemon has one or two different types and can use all different kinds of attacks. Some of them with the same type and some that aren't at all. Some do damage and others just weaken what they're fighting or strengthen themselves. [She glances down at her Houndour and scratches behind his ear a little.] And certain attack types do more damage against Pokemon of a certain type, like how Fire-types are weak against Water-type attacks. But if a Fire-type attack hits a Water-type Pokemon, it doesn't really hurt them very much.

[She pauses and tilts her head slightly.] Makes sense, right?

[This girl looks like she was on the wrong end of a fire ninjutsu. Let him stare for a moment before he dares to ask.] Care to elaborate?

[Don't mind the Torchic trying to perch on his head now, even though it's just a little too big. He's just about had it with this thing already.]
