1st Tomoe || Video

[When the video feed pops up, it briefly shows the sunny sky and some of the familiar scenery of New Bark Town before a rather unimpressed boy appears on screen. The music has already started to irritate him (since he can't seem to find the source and, eerily enough, it's everywhere), but that's not all that's bothering him.

In fact, one of his eyes visibly twitches when an excited chirp sounds and a cute orange bird peeks at the PokéGear's screen. It seems like he's still thinking over exactly what he wants to ask however, and after he manages to coax the bird to sit still -- well, for the moment anyway -- he finally turns to the PokéGear and indicates the creature beside him.]

What is this thing?

[Someone isn't very talkative. Then again, there are several other things wrong that he'd rather not bring up, all things considered.]

[Torchic warbles a little more excitedly when the girl replies to it. Well, as far as Sasuke knows it is an 'it', anyway.]

How did you get here? [He has no idea how he arrived, but it sounds like this girl might have a clue. It was worth at least hearing her out.]

[She frowns a little at that actually, and shakes her head.]

I'm not really sure. I just know I went to sleep in my own bed and woke up here.

... And it's the same for everyone?

As far as I know, yes. I'm sorry I can't be more help with that.

[He just hummed in response to that, his eyes thoughtfully going down to Torchic again. Even if it wasn't incredibly helpful, it gave him enough information about how he actually came to this place.]

These creatures are supposed to be able to fight, right? [Torchic peeps almost proudly then -- something which just makes Sasuke seem more skeptical.]

[She can't keep from giggling at how his Torchic seems to perk up at that, and she nods. Her Houndour comes into view - or at least, makes his presence known with a loud howl, and she laughs again, gently pressing her hand against his face to keep him from jumping up on her lap and consequently, the Togepi still seated there.]

Yeah, they are. Each Pokemon has one or two different types and can use all different kinds of attacks. Some of them with the same type and some that aren't at all. Some do damage and others just weaken what they're fighting or strengthen themselves. [She glances down at her Houndour and scratches behind his ear a little.] And certain attack types do more damage against Pokemon of a certain type, like how Fire-types are weak against Water-type attacks. But if a Fire-type attack hits a Water-type Pokemon, it doesn't really hurt them very much.

[She pauses and tilts her head slightly.] Makes sense, right?

[He just nods again, suddenly seeming a little bit more interested in the conversation. Oddly enough, the concept is familiar to him, though he doesn't say as such.]

So they can use jutsu?

[Aaand you lost her, bro. She blinks.]

Jutsu? That's something from your world, I bet?

[Crap. He stiffens a little, though he tries to remain as stone-faced as he has been (or at least he thinks he has been).]

... Yes.

[But she looks really interested.]

So this jutsu is... just attacks, right? Physical or magical, and using elements?

[Because if that's the case, then she totally gets it. She's never used magic in her world yet, but she's sure she can learn it pretty quickly if she can swing around a Keyblade with little experience and still kick butt.]

[For a few seconds he's contemplating, having absently started to smooth down Torchic's back feathers. Which seems to leave the bird contented to just sit still for the moment.]

... There are different kinds. The most basic are Genjutsu, Ninjutsu and Taijutsu. Genjutsu are illusionary techniques that distort an opponent's senses or chakra. Ninjutsu are offensive techniques that rely on chakra, like breathing fire or manipulating the earth. Taijutsu is related to physical combat and, on some levels, weapons usage. [Just the basics wouldn't give too much away, and maybe she was just a civilian who really didn't know about any of this.]

[Well no, she doesn't know much about it at all, but that doesn't keep her from trying to wrap her mind around it. She has plenty of questions of course, but those will stay with her until a better time.]

Well... from the sounds of it, that's actually pretty similar to what Pokemon can do. So it looks like you aren't too far out of your element, which is great for you.

Normally people can do all of this with the right training. It's not unheard of for animals to be able to use jutsu as well, though.

So in your world, a rabbit could learn?

[She giggles a bit at the thought of a burst of flame coming from a tiny little bunny, but she figures she'll see stranger things while she's here.]

Oh! I never introduced myself- and I need to send you that guide!

[And she fiddles with the 'gear for a moment to send him Pokémon Training for Dummies.txt.]

There, you should have it. I'm Kairi; it's nice to meet you. [Her gaze flickers to his Torchic.] And your Pokemon, too! Oh, and don't mind the name of the file; Riku has a weird sense of humor sometimes.

Rabbits, weasels, dogs, snakes, hawks -- almost anything you can think of.

[He's just giving that file name a look before he looks back to Kairi.]

Sasuke.

[Her Houndour makes sure to make himself known again at the mention of 'dogs', a quick bark escaping him before he gets all up in Kairi's face again. She laughs and pushes him away gently, returning to scratching behind his ears again so he's still getting some attention.]

That sounds pretty amazing, actually. [A pause.] So, Sasuke. Are you a trainer or a breeder?

A trainer.

[Hey, he did read some of the trainer's guide. Even if it wasn't a very good explanation.]

[She takes a moment to look him over, as if assessing him... but it's just an act anyway.]

You definitely seem more like a trainer. Then again, my best friend Sora is one of the best fighters I know and he's a breeder like me, so anything's possible!

Mm, do you have any idea what your Pokemon is? It looks like it'd be a Fire-type, if the color is anything to go on...

[That's about when he whips out the pokedex, pressing a few buttons and experimenting with the functions before he figures it out. And, with a brief scan, he nods.]

Torchic. It's a fire type, but it doesn't know any fire moves right now.

[Naturally, that gets Torchic's attention and it peeps proudly. After a beat, he stares to the pokedex again with a raised brow.]

... It's also male.

Ah, Torchic? What a cute name. [Don't mind her, she just... loves these things.] Well, as they get stronger and you fight with them more, they'll learn better and more powerful moves. Like...

[She trails off and glances around, then smiles at something off screen, calling out for something. "Come here, no need to be shy." She sets her Togepi down next to Houndour and lifts up a Dratini in her lap the best that she can - it's clear that he's kind of big and only getting bigger. He seems a little wary about being seen by others, his fins pressed back against his head as he tries to hide under Kairi's arm.]

This one. Dratini's a Dragon-type, but when he hatched, he didn't know any Dragon-type attacks. But since I've been training him with Riku a little, he does now.

[She scratches behind one of the Dratini's fins and he starts to relax, his head tilting back as he makes a content squeak.]

So that's all it really takes. But just be careful of where you train. Some areas have Pokemon that are just way too strong for a little Torchic like that to handle.

[He might have huffed at the 'cute' comment but it was gone as quickly as it came. The advice she was giving now seemed to be more important.] Then I'll make sure he's strong enough to take on anything.

It's going to take some time, but that's the spirit! You don't want to train your Pokemon too hard, or they'll get tired out easily. Just make sure you take care of him, okay?

[She nods, mostly at the Torchic, because she doesn't want to see any mistreatment of Pokemon, thank you very much.]

Oh! And you're entitled to a free Pokemon egg from the Breeding Center since you're new, so I think you should take a look and see if there's anything you'd like.

... Mm.

[Admittedly, taking care of something that isn't himself - outside of life-or-death situations - was different. But he's pretty sure he can handle it. He nods, again petting down Torchic's back.]

Where is it?

Well! That's the good thing about it; you can just call in on your PokeGear and request the egg, and when you get to the next town, it'll be be at the Pokemon Center waiting for you. And Cherrygrove is about... a three-day journey, so if you do it now, it'll definitely be there by the time you arrive.

[She grins; clearly, she just did it herself, and she's petting her Dratini, already reminiscing a little on the day she got his egg in Cherrgrove.]

The system they have for transporting Pokemon is pretty convenient. Oh, and keep in mind that some Pokemon take a lot longer to hatch than others. My Dratini took about three weeks, but Togepi [She pauses to point the 'gear at the little cutie by Houndour's feet.] only took a couple of days.

Three days... [Will what he has be enough? He'll have to review the contents of his bag later and make certain that he's prepared for the trip before he heads out. Like hell he's going to let himself (or Torchic) die out there because of something stupid like lack of food or water.

But, that isn't what they're talking about. He nods to the camera again.]

I'll do that tonight.
