[When the video feed pops up, it briefly shows the sunny sky and some of the familiar scenery of New Bark Town before a rather unimpressed boy appears on screen. The music has already started to irritate him (since he can't seem to find the source and, eerily enough, it's everywhere), but that's not all that's bothering him.

In fact, one of his eyes visibly twitches when an excited chirp sounds and a cute orange bird peeks at the PokéGear's screen. It seems like he's still thinking over exactly what he wants to ask however, and after he manages to coax the bird to sit still -- well, for the moment anyway -- he finally turns to the PokéGear and indicates the creature beside him.]

What is this thing?

[Someone isn't very talkative. Then again, there are several other things wrong that he'd rather not bring up, all things considered.]

And you're not going to tell me more than that. [Which, naturally, is annoying. He twitches a little but doesn't add onto it further. Granted, it's probably because Torchic is still using Sasuke's head as a perch.]

Because apparently the surprise is worth keeping a pet I didn't even want.

I was trying to do that 'walking across coals' thing to impress my friends, but then I tripped.

[He doubts that's what really happened, but it's not like he doesn't have his own secrets to keep. He just nods.] Fine.

Chic! Torchic chic! [The bird bounces in place a little, for once seeming concerned instead of cheerful as he leans towards the camera.]

Yeah, it was pretty hilarious, you shoulda been there.

Anyway, if you wanna get to actual civilization before you run out of food, I'd suggest you start walking.

It's a good three-day trip to Cherrygrove from New Bark.

[Considering what he's been though and what his profession was, there isn't too much that can unsettle Sasuke. At least, he thinks there isn't.]

Depends what they are. You can buy actual, like, kibble and stuff in the stores, and most of 'em tend to be pretty happy sharing whatever it is YOU'RE eating _{[Sometimes obnoxiously so, at least in Heather's experience.]}, but I think most'll forage in the wild while you're on the road if you let 'em, too.

[He hums and nods, wondering if Torchic will cause him any problems like that idly but pushing the thought away soon enough.

Unfortunately, he's also not feeling too talkative so that lets a rather awkward silence hang between them then...]
