18th Tomoe || Video (Action for Lake of Rage)

[A beautiful view of a clear sky and a setting sun sinking below the trees is what greets the network first, followed gradually by water disturbed by the occasional Magikarp, Feebas, and Gyarados. Still it lowers, and when it does it shows a pale hand slipping two daisies into it before it withdrew and let them float away.

There's a sigh after, followed by the camera shifting and getting closer to the ground before it stops. Whoever's holding the gear is sitting on the bank by the lake for the time being, but still it never turns to the holder. Only the flowers floating away on the water and the darkening sky above was what it showed.

The sounds of the background music and wild pokémon in the area alike are picked up, but they seem to soften when the gear's holder finally speaks.]

When something happens - something awful - how do you know when it's time to let go of it, or if you should at all?

[It's hard for him to speak that, and something in his tone reflects the conflicted emotions behind his words. Even if he's had time to think, he still feels lost. Even if he's had time to learn more, it hasn't gotten any easier to accept. But what else can he do anymore? Even if he said he'd find his own path... Another part of him can't help but try to seek answers.]

[She still didn't answer immediately, avoiding the 'gear and looking back to the sky.]

Gaara... Sakura told me how Lee was able to recover, and Naruto-kun and Shino-kun... they both told me that Lee forgave him. That our team has worked to help him -- or will, I guess.

I still don't know if I get it, but... [A one-shouldered shrug.] I guess... if we'd held onto that, if we weren't allies... maybe we'd still be fighting each other.

... I see.

[He sighs, shaking his head and shifting a little, causing the camera to move a little awkwardly with him.]

... I doubt there's any such hope for him.

For your brother...?

[She stays quiet again before turning her attention to the 'gear, finally, though there's really still nothing to see but that same sunset.]

Everyone thought Gaara was a monster for a long time. I still think he is, unless Lee comes here and tells me different, but... if someone like him can become Kazekage?

I don't think it'd be impossible for him to find acceptance.

... Of course not. He killed all of his clan... His family... So the village could live in peace. But he also took on the brand of traitor and is loathed by the village he wanted to serve.

... By his own brother.

Mm.

[She just nods and sighs quietly, shaking her head.]

Is loathed by his own brother, Sasuke? Or was?

I know why he did what he did. That doesn't mean I can forgive him for it.

...You know I can't answer it for you, then.

[Another sigh.]

You made it pretty clear that I can't understand, but... If you let it go, maybe it'll hurt less. Maybe then you won't feel so alone anymore.

[He doesn't respond to that, because as much as he doesn't want to admit it... Tenten's probably right. Maybe he won't feel as much loneliness if he just lets it go. But at the same time... It's hard to. Hard to let go of his hatred, his sorrow, all things that spawned from his love for his family and, as much as he loathed to admit it now, his friends. Hard to let go of the force that had been driving him to survive ever since it happened. Hard to let go of his purpose.

Is it even possible to do that?]

[It didn't seem to matter how much she said so, he just... never seemed to acknowledge it. And that kind of hurt, too.]

Maybe you'll be able to feel that instead of just being told.

[He has to breathe out at that, his head bowed as the camera shifts downward just slightly, showing more of the shoreline than anything else.]

To know that the village lives in peace because of his suffering, and they dare to scorn him for it...

[Her voice is quiet again as she looks up toward the sky again. He's right, she doesn't know, but she has ears, and she's good at analyzing. Not that she really needed it, after Goldenrod.]

Isn't that what he wants?

... It was a mission he chose to take to protect me. I was the one person he couldn't kill.

Even more important than our cousins, our aunts and uncles... Our mother and father...

He suffered because of the village... And because of me.

And what happens if you let all that go?

You can't change what happened back then, but... he's here now. If you don't want him to suffer because of you, then...

Why care.

We're not in the same family, the same team, or even the same year. The only connection you and I even have is that we were born in the same village. You can't know what I'm going through, even if you wanted to try.

[Although it goes unsaid, it's an experience he wouldn't wish on anyone else - not even his worst enemies, now.]

[Maybe it's not meant to hurt, but she flinches anyway -- it still does.]

I don't have to know what you're going through to care, Sasuke. Unless everything we've gone through together since I got to Johto five months ago just doesn't matter.

You're right. We still have that time.

...Isn't that reason enough for me to care? Not about the family, the team, or even the village this time. Just what's happened between the two of us.

[Tenten can't see it, but at this point Sasuke's pulled out his headband to just look at it. She might see the two tails of cloth hanging down in front of the gear as he examines it.]

A bond... I guess we do have one. Even if something like that isn't what I wanted, it doesn't change that it's there.

[She can see the tails, but it takes a moment to be able to put them to what they are.]

...What kind of bond did you want?

I didn't want any bonds at all. It hurt too much to have them ripped away from me... I never wanted to experience that again.

I won't be ripped away that easily. Not if I've got anything to say about it.

...

But that might not be enough.

It's a start though, isn't it?

You've got to make bonds if you don't want to be alone.
